
Caritas Bukoba is under Caritas Tanzania (CT), which was established by the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) in 1971. Caritas Tanzania operating in 37 Dioceses of Tanzania including the Catholic Diocese of Tanzania, was registered under the Societies Ordinance of 1954 of the United Republic of Tanzania, with stration number 10741.
Caritas Bukoba as part of TC is a Church charitable organization aimed at coordinating both charitable and social activities in the Catholic Diocese of Bukoba. It empowers communities to improve thier living conditions by promoting equality between men and women, and development programs, emergency, relief and humanitarian assistance as well as skill training to promote income generating activities. To this end, Caritas Bukoba has three departments: Administrative, Accounts and Community Development (Agriculture and Livestock, environment, health (water and water sanitation), education and microcredit).
Currently, Caritas Bukoba is running school water sanitation and hygiene project in 13 schools in the District of Muleba in the Kagera Region in Tanzania. Watch here a short Video on projects supported by the Fredericksburg, Texas, Nootime Rotary and other clubs.
The Tree planting project started in 2013. More than 15 million trees have been planted. This project not only protects the environment but also contributes to poverty alleviation through commercial and truit trees planting. It is an ongoing project funded by Mr. Hub E-mail: hubcox@icloud.com and Mr. Jos Duindam E-mail: info@dewelstand.nl, both from The Netherlands.

Since this project was started in 2011, more than 120 houses have been constructed for poor families who are now enjoying decent houses. Diseases such as Malaria and other diseases caused by poor surroundings have decreased. Funders: Mission Appeals from Peoria Diocese, Illinois USA and Charlotte diocese, North Carolina USA by Caritas Director with collaboration with Bukoba Caritas Department.
Project location: 7 Schools in Katoma and Nyanga Wards in Bukoba Municipal and Bukoba Rural Districts. Grants by Rotary Club of Fredericksburg, TEXAS U. S. A Successes: providing decent toilets as well as safe and clean drinking water has solved many problems facing children in schools including diseases such as cholera, diarrhea.
Project Location: Kashasha and Ijumbi wards in Muleba and Karagwe Districts, Kagera Region, Tanzania. Grants by Rotary Club of Fredericksburg, TEXAS U. S. A Successes: Two schools: Rubya 'A' in Muleba and Omulusimbi Primary School in Karagwe District have enjoyed improvement of Toilets and water sanitation.
Project Area: The Project is located in 3 Districts: Bukoba, Muleba and Missenye in 28 Villages. Project Funders: The Franciscan Sisters of Holland who have provided a total amount of TZS 40,000,000 (EUR 16,129) Successes: 33 groups have been started from 2013. The project has raised the living standard of the people through revolving funds. Individuals have started small projects such as livestock keeping: cows, chicken, goats, and pigs while others have created retail shops.
This Project was financed by the Government of China through the Group of Friends of Bukoba. Fourty Tailoring Machines were distributed to 11 groups. Machines were donated direct from China.Tsh. 12,000,000 (USD 5,217.39). Successes: Machines have created jobs while the income of the project is now revolving among the groups.
